2005 Blue Mountain Rosé Brut, Okanagan Valley, BC

December 27, 2009 by

This week’s pick comes from Britta Giese, sommelier at the Sooke Harbor House in British Columbia.  Blue Mountain Vineyards and Cellars is in Okanagan Falls, in the heart of the Okanagan Valley region.  Britta is particularly fond of this sparkling wine because the family behind Blue Mountain Winery is a leader in their commitment to biodynamic practices.  Their Brut Rosé is made from just over 80% Pinot Noir, backed up with Chardonnay.  Britta said the wine offers “tiny, consistent bubbles and citrus in the finish.”

The Sooke Harbor House is on Vancouver Island and overlooks the Puget Sound, offering breath-taking views of the Olympic mountains.  Britta described her inn’s commitment to the ”100 mile diet”.  They emphasize unique local cuisine (the menu changes daily) and focus on wines from British Columbia (all of their wines by the glass are from BC).  Their 7,000 bottle cellar is a Wine Spectator Grand Award winner.
