Wine Festival at D.C.’s National Harbor Days Away

D.C.’s 2010 Food & Wine Festival at National Harbor is bigger than ever this year and begins June 12. The festival includes two days of wine, spirit and beer tasting, along with a variety of speakers and events that will bring together food and beverage tastes from around the region and around the world.

If you register online, you can save a little money on admission and possibly some time when you arrive.

“We don’t want to just do a wine festival,” says Lynn Schwartz, the festival’s manager. “We want to embrace the food as well and the other spirits and beer, so it can be something significant to the area because the area has grown so much.”

As a result, the show has exploded in size and scope from its beginnings just two years ago.

This year the space has doubled and includes an extra pier along National Harbor’s waterfront. Exhibitors will line both sides of each pier.

It’s not just about the drinks either. Sprinkled among the offerings from more than 100 exhibitors, including the regions top wineries and restaurants, will be celebrity appearances from Rock Harper, winner of Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen competition, and Nongkran Daks, whose Pad Thai won a Throwdown with Bobby Flay matchup.

In addition, host and namesake of Coastal Cooking with John Shields, former White House chef Walter Scheib and Cooking Light executive chef Billy Strynkowski will also appear.

Sabrina Soto, host of HGTV’s Get it Sold and Real Estate Intervention, David Guas, author of DamGoodSweet, and Top Chef finalist Carla Hall will round out the celebrity-influenced event to make the 2010 Food & Wine Festival one of the top D.C. events of the year.

Festival hours are from noon to 9 p.m. June 12 and from noon to 6 p.m. June 13. Advanced purchase general admission tickets for June 12 are $69 ($73 at the gate) and $60 ($65 at the gate) on June 13.

Tickets for those ages 12-20 are $30, and children from age 6-11 are $15 both days. Children 5 and under are free.

A portion of event proceeds will support The Erikka A. Hayes Foundation
