This week’s pick was enthusiastically recommended by John Curry, the wine manger at Max’s Wine Dive in Houston, Texas. At the Wine Dive, you can pair wines from a diverse list of dishes like fried alligator tail or braised Kobe beef cheeks, or take a bottled to go.

John keeps Max’s Wine Dive on top of a growing wine scene in Houston by offering unique selections and a very low mark-up on bottles served at the table.

This week’s pick is a blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, which come together to offer a heavy dose of blueberry and plum flavor. Michael and David Phillips are the fifth generation of wine growers in Lodi, which is directly east of San Francisco and south of Sacramento. Wines from their collection sport very catchy labels, which makes them easy to recognize. The Petite Petit has been spotted in stores for less than $20, and if offered online for $18.
